Joints families used to be common in our parents and grand parents generations. A lot of us, the younger lot have moved to single ( with parents ) or nuclear ( just the immediate family of husband, wife and kids ) families . Maybe for the greater freedom ? Maybe because due to lack of wanting to adjust living with people who may have different aspirations, different habits, basically now wanting to adjust to live with common rules and regulations. But it seems that the joint families are coming back in fashion ?

What do you attribute this change to ? Is the the love of wanting to live together with an extended family or is it more of a marriage of convenience , where common work gets shared ( eg. brining up the kids ) and common expenses gets shared ( rental for the house, electricity bill, etc ) ? ...and what would you prefer ? A joint family or single one or nuclear one ?
